Societal expectations are like handcuffs someone put on your knuckles, never asking for your permission. But dropping them is super tough. After all, we are social creatures, and the intrinsic need to belong forces people to wear masks. One might know that being yourself is the right thing to do, but actually doing it takes courage. Namely, when you accept that you're going to be yourself in your rawest form, unapologetically, you also have to accept that societal expectations won't disappear. So, when you decide to live your life your way, you acknowledge the cost of being rejected, over and over again. That's what takes courage. That is called strength.
